Hypnos is my favorite character in the game, and it was by far the easiest. I wanted to maintain his overall carefree vibe, so I went for very comfy clothes.

One thing I love to do is imagine characters in a day to day situation, with clothes, props etc. Hypnos was very fun to experiment, always having in mind his canon design, but with a few twists. You can tell a lot about a character just by their clothes.

First explorations, before we figured it out the style of the comic. Me and my partner didn’t even think about putting them in school uniforms, something we found funny since almost everyone else in the zine did.

Ares was a bit harder for me, I needed him and Hypnos to balance each other, so I focused on small details like always having sharp edges and implementing things from his original design, like the accent colors and some motifs.

Since the beginning me and my partner wanted to show other gods at school. Dionysus and Aphrodite were the obvious choice to make Ares life a bit harder.

Aphrodite was by far the hardest, who would have thought that dressing a character that’s always naked would be so hard, huh?

A lot of the other contributors were drawing Zagreus, so I really wanted to show off my high school version of him. With the red leggings and flame vans, trying to make a call back to his design in the game.

The line up for some of the characters who would appear in the comic, I ended up showing Artemis as well, but I had to make her design on the go since it was a last minute decision.

I believe you can tell a LOT about a character by their bag and accessories, so I imagined what Hypnos bag would look like. (The bell-pepper is a inside joke)

Did some exploratory sketches to explore their dynamic as a couple and to familiarize myself with the style chosen.

We explored a lot of scenarios that didn’t envolve high school at all, so we felt we had to take those out of out heads first. Served to learn more about their dynamics.

First ever sketch of the two, Ares looked weird without his war paint so my partner had the brilliant idea to give him vitiligo.

I was later asked to design an acrylic keychain since the artist dropped out. I tried to push my Hypnos agenda, but felt Zag was a better character for the part.
