Reimagining Haikyuu
I wanted to figure it out how the palette, paneling, style, etc. would look like if I made this story an actual comic book.

I realized I had to draw their backpacks from behind in the 4 page comic and I had to dig deeper. Cool school bags are my kryptonite.

Making characters re-designs is always fun to me, I like to focus in one or two aspects of a character and see how much I can push it.

I started exploring Kageyama’s character design, but it turned into the classic “my best friend has a new friend” from Kenma’s perspective.

Reimagining Haikyuu

This project started out with a simple warm up sketch after I bought the comic book “Street Angel After School Kung Fu Special” by Brian Maruca and Jim Rugg, the story and art style captured me so quickly that I had to create something with a similar “vibe”. At the time I was talking about Haikyuu (created by Haruichi Furudate) with a friend and thought “what if they were in middle school with a shameless/punk mood?” And thus I went mad with re designing the characters and building new dynamics.
This is just a few things I created over that week, and it’s a project very dear to me and something that I still have a lot to discover and play with.
